Fiber Tour of Ireland 2019

West Coast, Ireland

Here are the highlights of our trip.  Please note that airfare is not included in the tour price, but Celtic Journeys will be happy to help you find a good fare from your preferred airport.  Upon request, you will receive a printable itinerary and a list of the specific hotels we will be staying at.  Still have questions?  Please send a note and we'll be happy to help you!


We'll depart for Ireland on Tuesday, April 23  (if traveling from the US)

Wednesday, April 24  - Dublin to Glendalough & Mount Juliet

We'll meet our driver/guide at Dublin Airport and head to Glendalough, a 6th century monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin.  From there we will head to Thomastown (Co. Kilkenny) and Mt. Juliet to our hotel and a welcome dinner.

Thursday,April 25  - Today we will meet Suzanna Crampton at Zwartbles Farm and take a tour of Cushendale Mill, then return to Mt. Juliet  and dinner in Thomastown.

Friday, April 26  - Tramore and Waterford

We'll travel to Tramore and meet with Green Elephant Hand Dyed Yarn, then later in the afternoon tour the Medieval Museum in Waterford. 

Saturday, April 27  - Waterford to Killarney

Zwartbles Farm

After saying good-bye to Thomastown, we will make our way to Cork to visit Hedgehog Fibers and Cobh.  Continuing west, we'll stay in the town of Killarney for dinner and overnight.

South Coast

Sunday, April 28 - Dingle

Our first stop today is the Kerry Woollen Mills, then we'll be heading to Dingle Bay and the town of Dingle. 

Monday, April 29 - Killarney

Today we'll enjoy a guided tour of Muckross House and Gardens, followed by time with Muckross Weavers. 

Tuesday, April 30 - Killarney to Ballyvaughan

Leaving Killarney, we'll travel to Tarbert and take the ferry across the River Shannon to Killimer (Co. Clare).  Continuing north, we'll see the Ciffs of Moher, then visit Ekotree Knitwear Studio in Ballyvoe.  Traveling on to Crusheen, we'll visit with Sandra King in her studio where we will card and spin, and see how natural dyeing is done (we'll each receive a skein of hand dyed yarn, too!)

Wednesday, May 1 - Ballyvaughan to Dublin

From Ballyvaughan we'll stop first at Hazel Mountain Chocolates for a tour (and some treats) then travel east across the midlands where we'll visit Tullamore Dew to see Irish whiskey made.  Then we'll head to Dublin!

Thursday, May 2 - The Constant Knitter

Today we'll meet Rosemary Murphy at The Constant Knitter where we'll have a Trunk Show and conversation with Kieran Foley.  we'll also meet Aoibhe Ni, an Irish crocheter and designer.

Friday, May 3 - Dublin

Today we'll return to The Constant Knitter to meet Aine Dunne, a fine art tapestry weaver and hand spinner who will talk with us about her work and show us some examples.   We will have a farewell dinner in the evening to end our time in Ireland.

Saturday, May 4- Return from Dublin Airport (Celtic Journeys can help you extend your stay before or after our tour - please inquire if you are interested.)
